Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of explaining the relationship between smartphone addiction with academic procrastination and academic burnout by the mediation of academic self-efficacy in first secondary students of Mohr city. The current research was of a descriptive-correlation type. The statistical population included first secondary students of Mohr city, whose number was 426 in 2022-2023. The statistical sample was estimated to be 200 people according to Morgan's table and with the available sampling method. Data collection tools included the academic procrastination questionnaires of Solomon and Roth Bloom (1984), the academic burnout questionnaire of Salmela-Aro & Näätänen (2005), the mobile phone dependence questionnaire of Koo (2009) and the academic self-efficacy questionnaire of Jinks and Morgan (1999). Data were analyzed using AMOS software. The findings showed that smartphone addiction has a direct and negative effect on academic self-efficacy and has no effect on academic procrastination and academic burnout. Also, smartphone addiction has an indirect effect on academic procrastination and academic burnout through the mediation of academic self-efficacy. As a result, by increasing academic self-efficacy, the negative effects of smartphone addiction on academic procrastination and academic burnout can be reduced.
