The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Increasing Hope and Decreasing Negative Excitements of Male Students in the Ninth-Grade

Abstract

                                                                                              The objective of this study was to delimit the efficiency of acceptance and commitment therapy in enhancing hope and decreasing negative emotions of 9th-grade male students. The research design was semi-experimental of a pre-test and post-test type with a control group. The statistical population of this examination consisted of all 9th-grade male students of Zahedan who were studying in the academic year of 2017-2018. Multi-stage cluster sampling picked 34 people and randomly assigned to two groups (17 in the experimental group and 17 in the control group). The experimental group received eight sessions of 90 minutes’ acceptance and commitment training during two months, while the control group did not receive any training during this period. Schneider's Hope Questionnaire and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) were employed for data collection. Multi-variable and single-variable covariance analysis was adopted to analyze the data. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance revealed that acceptance and commitment therapy had a significant impact on hope and negative sentiments and ended in a rise of hope and reduction of negative emotions in the 9th-grade male students. Hence, acceptance and commitment therapy can be utilized in improving the hope and lessening the negative emotions of male students.
