Designing and validating a school-based educational package based on the choice theory and determining its effectiveness on academic buoyancy

Abstract

The present study aimed to develop and validate a school-based educational package based on the theory of choice and determine its effectiveness on academic buoyancy. The research design was pre-test and post-test with the control group by sex. The statistical population consisted of all students of public schools in the eleventh grade experimental field of the 11th educational district of Tehran during the academic year of 2011-2012 when a census collected the research data from 448 students. Finally, a sample of 41 and 30 students was studied in the experimental and control groups, respectively. The package was completed in three stages from the beginning to the end in the form of a workbook and the teacher's guide in 8 training sessions of 120 minutes. Content validation was used to validate the package. The students’ academic buoyancy was measured by a standard questioner developed by Hossain Chari & Dehgani Zadeh. The results indicate that the educational package has been able to increase the academic buoyancy significantly. The average post-test scores increased about 20% from 23.49 to 27.90, indicating a meaningful increase in academic buoyancy. Also, a follow-up test was conducted after the implementation of the post-test, when the results showed that no significant change was made in the post-test results after two months. In explaining this result, it can be said that due to the effectiveness of the educational package in long-term.
